Map of the Month – Gallium Nitride

Scientists are developing new materials to create smaller, more powerful electronics. One promising candidate is gallium nitride (GaN)!

This amazing material is already used in blue LEDs, but it could also replace silicon in future devices. Here's why:

Wide bandgap: Makes GaN super efficient, especially at high temperatures

Tiny and tough: Perfect for packing a lot of power into small spaces

However, GaN devices need to be perfect to work well. Luckily, we have imaging techniques like photoluminescence microscopy to check for any imperfections!
