Biological Safety Cabinet Testing & Certification
On-site certification of a biological safety cabinet is essential to verify that the cabinet continues to provide the personnel, product and environmental protection. Class II BSCs are tested and certified on a semi-annual or annual basis depending on the application. A comprehensive test should include the followings:
· Downflow velocity profiling
· Inflow velocity profiling
· Airflow smoke pattern test
· HEPA filter leak test
· Cabinet integrity test (for Type A1 cabinets with positive-pressure contaminated plenums only)
· Alarm function verification
· Blower interlock (for Type B1 and B2 cabinets)
· Exhaust system performance (for any cabinet connected to the building exhaust system)
· Lighting intensity test
· Vibration test
· Noise level test
· Electrical tests (leakage, ground circuit resistance, and polarity)
